Bad Credit Loans - Should You Get One?

Sometimes it becomes necessary to be able to put your hands on some money, when you need it, even if you have bad credit. Your credit rating has nothing to do with whether you need money or not. Today, lenders make it much easier for people with bad credit to be able to get the money they need. Here are some things that you need to know about bad credit loans to be able to get the money you need.

You can get loans for just about anything - even with bad credit. There are, however, some things that the lenders will want to see before they give you a loan. Generally, they will want to see that you have a good job, and have been there a while. They will also want to know that you are now able to make payments because you can afford them. Although your credit ratings may not be good, you still should be able to make timely payments. A funny thing about bad credit loans is that someone may qualify, even if they just finished bankruptcy proceedings last week - if these other conditions are applicable.

Whether you are interested in getting a mortgage for a new house, or for a car, or even for debt consolidation, you may be eligible. You should be aware, though, that the kind of deal you will be able to get will not be the same as someone who has good credit. The lender will probably limit you in three ways, making it a little less than the ideal loan. First, it will have higher interest and it could be quite a bit higher. Second, you will be limited in how much you can borrow. And, third, you will not be able to have as long of a repayment period as someone with good credit.

So, if these conditions bother you, then there are also a couple of things that you can do to get a better deal. They all, however, start with the word "wait." If you can wait a little while, before you get the loan, it may mean quite a bit of savings to you in the long run. Take some time and reduce your existing debts as much as you can first. Repair your credit. Then, you will be able to get a better deal. The amount of savings that are possible to you, by waiting and following these simple steps, could be sizable.

Other than that, money is available to you. If you already have a house, though, then probably the best way you can get money is by getting a loan based on your equity. Get a home equity line of credit (HELOC), and you will have money to play with.

People that do not have a house can get a personal loan, and may not even have to provide any collateral. Either secured loans (with collateral), or unsecured loans (no collateral), can be obtained with bad credit.

When you go to get your bad credit loan, though, you need to be aware that there are fraudulent companies who are looking for people with bad credit. They feel that you are more desperate to get money and can be more easily taken advantage of. So be careful, look into the company that you are dealing with, especially if you have never heard of them before - and shop around for the best deals.

Home Loans – Factors Used To Determine Your Credit Score

Credit scores are a major issue when it comes to getting a home loan. Following is a discussion of how said credit scores are determined.

Home Loans – Factors Used To Determine Your Credit Score

If you want to borrow hundreds of thousands of dollars for the purchase of a home, you are going to have to put up with some scrutiny. Your credit history, blemishes and all, is going to be front and center. Since we have all missed payments at one time or another, this can be a frightening prospect. Will one missed credit card payment result in your loan being denied? Probably not. There are five factors used to evaluate your score.

Payment history is by far the most important factor in determining your credit score. 35 percent of your score will be based on this factor. Meeting your debt payments in a timely manner will help your score. Making late payments will do the opposite. Lawsuits, judgments and tax liens are killers. Also, the size of the payment is taken into account. When in doubt, pay higher debt obligations before lower ones.

The balance on your debt obligations is another significant factor in your score. In a perfect world, you want to have a lot of credit available without actually owing any money. Since this is not a perfect world, you should try to keep the total amount you owe below thirty percent of the total credit available. If you have twenty thousands in available credit, you want to actually owe less than six thousand. This factor accounts for 30 percent of your credit score.

The length of credit is also a factor in your FICO score. The longer you have held individual credit accounts, often credit cards, the better. Importantly, you also need to show a history of actually using the credit. Oddly, lenders discount credit if it has never been used. The time you have had credit accounts for roughly 15 percent of your score.

The type of credit is also a facto in your FICO score, accounting for about ten percent. Credit cards are okay, but lenders like to see more formal obligations. This can be a car loan, student loan or previous mortgage. If you have a history with non-credit card debt, it is vital that you met every monthly payment obligation on the debt.

Inquiries also are factored into your FICO score, to the tune of ten percent. A lender is looking at inquiries over a 6 month period. Each one you initiated by applying for credit can ding your score, so make sure to avoid applying for credit for six months before seeking a mortgage.

It is vital that you order credit reports before applying for a mortgage. The credit reporting companies are often fined by the government for massive errors on reports. In fact, as many as fifty percent of all credit reports may have erroneous entries. Make sure yours is clean before applying for a loan.

Home Equity Loans - How To Get The Most Out Of It

A home equity loan gives you the financial power to do a lot of things that you may not be able to do otherwise. By tapping into the equity in your home, you have access to possibly many tens of thousands of dollars - depending on how long you have lived there. But, with the right planning, there are some uses for that home equity that may result in much higher long-term dividends than others. Here is what you need to know about a home equity loan.

The longer you have lived in your home - the more equity you have built up in it. If you are fortunate enough to live in an area that is rapidly increasing in value - as some areas are, then your home could provide you with a lot of equity. Several types of home equity loans will quickly give you access to it. The different types of loans that can help you the most are those that best fit in with your own plans.

You may be able, for instance, to refinance your first mortgage and get a much better deal - and get access to your equity, too. Primarily, this would be with a cash out mortgage. You simply refinance your mortgage for a lower interest rate on what you still owe, and then add to it how much you want to take out of your equity. At the same time, if you take about 5 years off of the length of the original terms, you can save tens of thousands of dollars more.

Another way is to get a second mortgage. This usually comes in the form of what is typically called a home equity loan, or you can also get a home equity line of credit. Both of these will give you access to your equity, but will also require an additional payment each month. A home equity loan is a straight lump sum loan, while a home equity line of credit gives you a little more flexibility by allowing you to withdraw only the amount of cash you need from an account with a pre-approved credit limit. You also will only pay interest on the amount you withdraw.

Any of these options will give you access to your equity, and you are free to use the money as you wish in any of them. You can take that fantastic trip you've always wanted to go to Hawaii or to the Bahamas, you can pay for a college education with it, medical bills, and even consolidate some of your other debt. These choices, however, may not be your best option.

Your best option is to take at least some of the money and reinvest it into your home by making renovations, improvements, or additions to your home. The renovations that add the most to a home is modernizing a kitchen with high tech devices and appearance, a bathroom, or an additional room. Each of these, along with many other things, can greatly increase the value of your home - and give you even more equity.

Besides the benefit of adding to the value and equity of your home, home improvements are also tax deductible, which gives you even more savings. Before you make any renovations or additions, though, be sure to check with your local Realtor, or contractor, to discover what construction style or materials will bring the most value. Not everything you do will increase its worth, so it will pay to find out in advance.

When you go to look for a home equity loan, be sure to get several different quotes. This will allow you to compare the features and get a good idea of what is available. Stay away from any loan that has a penalty for paying it off early.

Never Use Payday Loans

Should I Ever Use a Payday Loan Service?

In the past several years, payday loan stores have been popping up all over the country. With names like "Check Into Cash," "The Cash Store," and "EZ Money," they offer unsophisticated consumers the promise of quick, easy cash with few questions asked. But at what price?

The High Cost of Easy Money

Americans paid more than $6 billion in payday loan fees in 2005, and the number is likely to be much higher when the results for 2006 are tabulated. Payday lending is a big business, and it's also one of the fastest growing in the country. EZCorp, for example, was a lowly Texas-based pawnbroker just a few years ago. Thanks to expanding into the payday loans business in 2002, the company has more than quintupled its profits, and its stock had the best one-year price performance of any company traded on the major exchanges or NASDAQ, through June, 2006.

While buying EZCorp's stock a year ago would have been a wise financial decision, actually using the company's services has never been a good idea. The reason EZCorp and companies like it make so much money is because they rip off their customers, and this is hardly a matter of opinion. According to EZCorp's 2006 report for shareholders, the average payday loan has an annual percentage rate (APR) of 530 percent - and that's not a typo - that's highway robbery. So why would anyone ever use a payday loan service?

Target Market - The Unsophisticated and Credit Constrained Consumer

Most of the payday loan business's customers are people who are unsophisticated and / or have made bad decisions with their credit in the past. These are people with no savings and no credit, who live check-to-check. They don't realize that when they agree to pay a $40 fee for a $200, two-week loan, they are paying an astronomical annual interest rate. Or in some cases, they just don't care - they feel that they have no other options.

A disturbingly large percentage of people use payday loan services in order to avoid incurring NSF (non-sufficient funds) charges with their banks. People living check-to-check, with no access to conventional credit, can be devastated by unexpected expenses. Imagine a single mother who needs to write a $200 check to get her car fixed in order to get to work the next day, but she doesn't have the $200 in her bank account. She writes the check and then immediately goes to the payday loan store, where she can usually borrow the $200 with nothing beyond verification of her employment with a recent check stub. In this case, the single mom may actually be making a wise choice - since NSF fees are said to have an APR of 665 percent, and bank overdraft fees are even higher, at 1,160 percent APR. Clearly, the system is stacked against those who need the most help.

The Cycle of Indentured Servitude - And How To Avoid It

In the worst cases, people end up working all week in order to pay back their payday loan, and then have to take out another payday loan in order to make ends meet. Thus, the cycle continues, and these unfortunate people are relegated to the modern equivalent of indentured servitude.

The best way to prevent this from happening to you is to always maintain adequate lines of credit. In the above example, if the person could have simply charged the $200 repair bill on her Visa or Mastercard, all would have been well. Using a credit card to automatically pay for your regularly occurring charges, such as your phone and cable bills, is a good way to avoid NSF or bank overdraft fees, as well.

If you find yourself in trouble, be sure to always pay the minimum due on your credit cards - make this a priority second only to survival. If you default on your credit cards, you may have a very difficult time getting credit again in the future. Avoid the mistakes of the payday loan consumer, and of course, avoid the payday loan stores. Your money should be applied for your own benefit, not to the bottom line of unethical companies that make profits for their shareholders by exploiting the poor.

Take Care,

What Loan Options Are Available To Those With Bad Credit?

When it comes time to look around for the money you need to buy that thing you want, whether it is a car, a vacation, electronics, or whatever, you do not need to restrict yourself just because of bad credit. The truth is, nowadays, that loans are just about as available for people with good credit as for people with bad credit. Here are some of the various types of loans that you can get - even if you have bad credit.

It may be that one of the reasons that someone with bad credit can more easily get a loan these days is because most people will come back to a lender sometime and get another loan. This, of course, means more profit to the lender. Anyway, whatever the reason, if you have bad credit there are different kinds of loans that will help you when you need it.

One of the most common and easy to get is called a cash advance, or payday loan. These loans are unsecured, and for this reason are often referred to as being signature loans. These loans are available for emergency cash - up to $1,000, and are electronically deposited into your checking account within 24 hours. Some will put the cash where you need it in much less time. A word of caution about these, though, is that the interest is very high - usually around 30%, and will need to be paid back within two weeks.

Another personal loan, which would be your best option, is a secured loan. Collateral will need to be given, such as a house or car. Bad credit is accepted, and having collateral will enable you to get better rates than if you offered none. Although a bad credit loan is secured, you still will get higher interest rates than someone who has better credit. So if you need the money now, you have access to it.

You will want to remember that with any money that you borrow, that it does effect your credit rating. By making your payments on time each time, you slowly build your credit rating and work to bring it back to where it should be. Getting a loan with bad credit can help you, but you might want to think about trying to keep them small or you will be paying more interest than necessary. It might be more profitable to you if you wait a little longer until your credit is repaired with small loans and credit cards.

Unsecured loans are personal loans that you can get which do not require any collateral. Having no collateral, though, and bad credit, will mean that you pay more in interest. You will also have smaller amounts that you can borrow, and shorter periods of time to pay the loan.

Bad credit should not stop you from getting the money you need. However, many lenders will charge higher interest than others will and it will be up to you to look around to get the best deal. You should get several online quotes to see which bad credit loan is best for you. In addition, be sure that there is not any early closure penalties that charge you for paying it off early. You can easily get a loan without this clause and it could allow you to save even more money.

Bad Credit - Some Solutions

So, you’ve established the reasons for your poor credit rating. Now how can you go about fixing the problem?

Correcting Any Mistakes

If you disagree with the facts that the credit reference agency has on your file, you can dispute them. If the information is inaccurate, your record can be amended. The agency can’t change things just because you aren’t happy about it.

Re-applying

Be wary of making too many applications if you’ve been recently turned down for credit – every refusal will show on your record and count as another black mark against you. A better approach is to re-assess your finances, make a plan to tackle your debts, and apply again in a few months time.

Credit Repair Companies

There are companies who claim to be able to remove information from your credit file. Other than correcting inaccurate information, which you can do yourself, this not possible.

Debt Solutions

There are plenty of organisations to help you get a handle on your finances and manage debts. If the problem is out of hand, borrowing more money is not likely to be the best solution. You need to take advice from an independent, trustworthy source, such as a Citizen’s Advice Bureau or the National Debtline (www.nationaldebtline.co.uk). (The Debtline has separate pages for England & Wales and Scotland, as the law differs between the countries.) They provide a helpline, as well as fact sheets on how to deal with debt problems.

Often the first solution to managing your debt is to make a budget, listing all your debts and debtors. You should prioritise, and aim to pay off either the most important debts, like rent or bills, or the ones with the highest interest rates, such as credit cards with high APRs. If there are debts that you can’t afford to pay right now, you should contact your creditors and explain the situation. If you offer to make small, regular payments over a period of time they might be willing to be more flexible.

If you have a number of debts on which the interest is high, it might be a good idea to consolidate these. Arrange an appointment with your bank manager and discuss converting credit cards and overdrafts into a loan. You may get a lower interest rate, and it will simplify your monthly repayments while reducing the overall amount you owe with every instalment.
