Debt Consolidation Loans Help - Credit As A Viable Solution

Debt consolidation loans and credit counseling are tools that can help provide financial freedom from debt issues. Debt is a common issue in our society, and many people struggle to make ends meet. Bad spending habits create bad credit ratings, but most often, individuals continue the cycle of increasing their debt and sullying their credit rating by mismanaging debt and finances. Credit debt consolidation can be the key to breaking the cycle of financial issues, rescuing people from their shadow of debt and setting them on the path to financial freedom.

Debt consolidation loans and credit counseling are a good solution to being debt free. Debt consolidation is the combination of all your loans into one manageable loan. For example, a credit debt consolidation would help you if you have misused credit cards in the past. There are a number of benefits to consolidation options. For one, you are able to simplify the process of paying your debts. Instead of having several debts to pay each month, you can focus on only one. It may sound like a small thing, but think of how many times you have failed to pay a bill in time simply because you forgot what the due date was. This forgetfulness leads to late charges that help build a bad credit history.

Another benefit is that you lock your payment into a set interest rate. As you know from your experience with debt, the interest accumulated during the time that your balance is outstanding is bad news for your wallet. The rate of interest changes often, and it is hard to calculate how much money you have actually lost. A debt consolidation loan and credit help will ensure a set interest rate for the duration of your loan. You are also likely to receive a lower rate of interest if you consolidate your loans.

Debt consolidation loans and credit card consolidation are often offered by companies who also provide counseling services to teach consumers better spending habits and budget management. Should you locate a consolidation company offering these services, take advantage of the valuable help they can provide in setting you back on your feet with knowledge on how to manage income and payments effectively. While consolidation can help soothe immediate issues with payments, how you manage your money in the long term will determine whether you free yourself from debt or continue in the cycle of spending and owing.

Debt consolidation loans and credit counseling companies often come hand in hand with the closing of credit card accounts, a difficult option for many individuals. However, breaking the cycle of spending using plastic and incurring debt is important to financial responsibility and learning better spending habits to relieve debt. Many people have taken the plunge, given up their credit cards, and have used a debt consolidation loan to relieve their financial burdens. You can too.

How To Pay Off Your Student Loans

While student loans have helped many poor students by enabling them to pursue further studies by providing financial assistance, it can also be an emotionally and mentally exhausting journey.

Repaying a large student loan or multiple student loans can be a long burden which extends many years, well into your working years. Many students which have graduated find themselves having to set aside a large portion of their salary just to repay the student loans.

So what solution is available to help? A student loan consolidation plan may be able to help you particularly if you are repaying several student loans concurrently.

A student loan consolidation plan consolidate your student loans into one loan thus you only need to make one payment each month. This will help to better manage your finances as now you only repay one loan.

There are several types of student loan consolidation plans available depending on who you lend it from. Examples are federal student loan consolidation, sallie mae student loan consolidation etc. Check with your school or lender for more information.

There are several ways in which you can repay a student loan consolidation. The most common is a standard repayment plan. You repay a fixed amount every month until you fully repay the loan.

A graduated payment plan allows you to repay the student loan after you have graduated. It is suited for students who have no income during studies and only able to repay when they graduated and have a job.

A variable payment plan allows you to adjust how much you repay each month depending on your income level. It allows a greater flexibility and is more suited for people whose income varies each month. An example would be salesmen who earn via commission.

Another advantage of student loan consolidation is that it also helps to improve credit rating. Since you are effectively getting a new loan and your existing loans have already been cleared, it will help to improve your credit rating and easier to get financial assistance should you need one in future.

I would advise getting a federal student loan consolidation as the interest rates are one of the lowest available and the government loan is open to anyone studying in an american education institution.

Your Debt Consolidation Loan Tips

If you have exhausted all other options when it comes to relieving debt, consider a debt consolidation loan. The best way to think of this type of financing is as a combination of several different debts or loans into one payment. The most common type of debt that needs consolidation is credit card debt, and a card debt consolidation has several advantages.

One of the most appealing advantages to consolidating a debt consolidation loan is that it makes paying back your debt a simpler process. Instead of a number of debts to pay, all with different due dates each month, consolidating debt allows one payment per month. The consolidating company is responsible for making sure the payments get to each creditor. Be it a student loan consolidation or credit card debt consolidation, the situation allows the individual to focus time and energy on finding other ways to improve the financial situation.

Another way in which a debt consolidation loan is helpful is that it lowers the rate of interest. Credit cards tend to have high interest rates, so it is always good news when an individual finds a loan at a lower rate. This lower rate also lasts for the duration of the payment period, though with a consolidated payment plan, individuals pay off the loan for an extended period. Be sure to keep an eye on current interest rates. Interest rates will be determined in large part by what is going on nationally.

It is entirely possible to use this plan to help seek a more stable financial standing. Finding a reputable consolidation company, however, is paramount. Take as much time available to research the many options. The best bet is to go with companies that are familiar and well known.

A debt consolidation loan is used most often when someone has accumulated too much credit card debt. Credit card debt consolidation is useful in relieving some of the stress caused by collection agencies, but it cannot - and should not - be viewed as a life jacket that will save all. Individuals must do what is necessary to develop good, responsible spending habits. The importance of budgeting can not be overstated. Always avoid taking out more loans for debt relief - it simply makes matters worse.

A debt consolidation loan has many advantages. It can reduce high interest rates and simplify monthly payments by reducing them to one. However, individuals must do their part by learning to spend wisely and responsibly. A card debt consolidation loan can only take a person so far, and a debt-free future is up to the individual.

Key Benefits of Private Student Loans

With the steady escalation of educational costs and as the number of applicants are on the rise for federal loans, private student loans have grown rapidly among college students. Many students find the private student loans to be fitting and obtained effortlessly for making college education expenses. Private student loans also known as alternative student loans are obtained from private financial organizations, banks, credit unions etc based on the credit worthiness of the applicant for repaying the money without the interference of the government within a short period. Private student loans also are frequently used in the combination with federal student loans, especially when the funds are not sufficient through the federal student loans to cover the full expenses towards education.

Private student loans can be availed of by students with good credit report, or when he is a regular employee or if he is permanent resident of US. To satisfy the these requirements, he can apply with a co-signer who meets the minimum eligibility criteria and avail the private student loan.

Benefits of private student loans:

Private student loans can be obtained at a faster pace, making it easy to get and with great flexibility. The approval process is too quick in the case of private student loans that the funds are got by the student within five business working days after the application. The money, which can be availed of through private student loans, is much higher than the federal and scholarship funds. The private student loans can be availed any time by the student without any need to worry about application filing before closing dates. Many private student loans can be consolidated. These private student loans can be used to purchase a laptop, or towards educational expenses etc. A government student loan however, might be very restrictive in spending the money. There is no government intervention, as it is an agreement between the borrower and the private lender. Thus no need for government paperwork.

Although there are lots of advantages in getting a private student loan, no one can deny the disadvantages it has. Private student loans are only for credit worthy individuals, and mostly a co-borrower has to co-sign the loan document. Mostly the co-borrower is the parent. Also, the private student loans carry a hefty interest rate when compared with government student loans. Interest rates can vary each month, while government student loan interest rates are fixed. It requires applying for the loan several times as the applications are separate for each academic year in the case of private student loans.

Guidelines lenders look in for students’ creditworthiness:

A good credit history for a minimum of 21 months should be there. The residence should not have been changed at least for one year’s time. Should be a citizen of US or a permanent resident of US and should have resided for two years in US prior to permanent residentship. Should be able to provide proof of present revenue with an employment in the area where the student is attending school. Should have been in the job for at least 2 years, in case of self-employed should have been conducting business for at least 2 years time.

Painless Strategies Of Paying Off A Student Loan

Graduation day is over; degree in hand, the chilling reality of your student loan is looming large. You do not start repaying you loan until 6 months after graduation. When loan repayment begins, you have to pay at least $50 a month until your entire student loan and interest is paid off.

It makes sense to repay the loan amount early, so that you trim the interest, which will continue building on your loan. Financial planners recommend that you pay the minimum balance on your student loan and try to save as much as you can for retirement. In any given month, you can opt to pay off more than your monthly requirement without penalty.

There are mainly four options of repayment which you can choose from. If you land up with a good job once out of college, and can afford to make steep monthly payments, go with the standard payment schedule. Under this option, you can pay off your debt within 10 years with the best interest rate. It’s the quickest way to pay off your loans. However, it requires high monthly payments.

Graduated payment is an option if you expect to make a modest but steadily increasing wage. The payment requirements will start off gentle, and will gradually increase every couple of years for the next 10 to 30 years.

If you're in a commission-based or seasonal business, your income will vary accordingly. In this case, your monthly payment bill will be proportional to the amount you are currently making. You get a levy of get up to 15 years to pay it all off your student loan.

With a long-term payment option you'll be allowed to pay the least possible amount per month for 10 to 30 years. That however means that in 30 years you may have paid double the original amount of your loan. You have the flexibility of choosing to switch from one payment option to another, depending on your financial status.

However, if you find that you simply can't keep making monthly payments, no matter how small, you can choose to defer your loans. This means that for an amount of time that's negotiated between you and your lender, you won't pay any amount towards the loan. Interest, however, will continue to accrue, unless your loan subsidized.

Everyone is not qualified for loan deferment, unless you can prove that you are trapped in financial difficulty. Unlike deferment, forbearance gives you a shorter three-month break from your loan repayment. Your however may not grant you forbearance, unless he finds your request reasonable.

Student loan consolidation is another well-trodden path chosen by graduates each year. It allows you to put together your separate student loans into one big loan. This is a saviour when you can’t afford to shell out a large sum each month.

Debt consolidation will bundle your student loans into one, with a single loan amount which will be much lesser than paying multiple loans. Some also choose consolidation because it's easier to keep track of the bill.

Improve Your FICO Score with Student Loan Consolidation

Consolidating student loans is one of the most effective ways to improve your FICO score dramatically. A FICO score is perhaps the most important factor in shaping your financial future. Just a few additional points on a FICO score can literally save tens of thousands of dollars over a lifetime by locking in low interest rates on houses, cars, and other items purchased with credit.

How FICO scores are determined

A FICO score is derived from a complex algorithm that weighs different aspects of your past and present financial situation in order to predict how good of a credit risk you are likely to be in the future. Each factor is weighted differently depending on importance with 35% of the score based on payment history, 30% based on the amount of debt owed, length of history contributing 10%, new credit 10%, and types of credit 10%.

How student loan consolidation directly improves your FICO score

Because the second heaviest weighted factor (30%) is based on the amount of debt owed, reducing this amount can make a drastic impact on your credit score. Lenders also look at debt to income ratio when determining the amount of credit they will make available. Particularly for those who are just starting their careers, the lower monthly payments that result from consolidating a student loan can make a highly favorable impact on debt to income ratio.

Borrowers who refinance their student loan often save well over 50% on monthly payments. For example, the payment on a $30,000 student loan before refinancing is approximately $350. After consolidating, the average payment is around $166, a savings of more than $2,200 per year.

Indirectly improving your FICO score with student loan refinancing

Young adults who are just leaving school and starting their lives, families, and careers already have the chips stacked against them when it comes to finances. The majority of people rely on credit cards to help leverage cash flow in the years following college. But credit cards, especially for those who can't pay off the balance immediately, can become a source of angst and take a toll on your FICO score.

By choosing to redirect the money saved from student loan consolidation, borrowers can pay down high interest credit debts. Using the above example, redirecting $2,200 per year toward paying off high interest credit card debt can add up significantly. The total over 5 years can result in $11,000 worth of high interest debt repayment.

How student loan refinancing works

Student loan refinancing works by first locking in a low fixed interest rate as opposed to the variable interest rate customary of most government loans. Once a specific repayment amount is determined, the loan is then spread out over a longer period of time, resulting in a lower monthly payment. There are no penalties for early repayment of a consolidated student loan, so borrowers can leverage the lower monthly payments to improve their FICO score and pay off high interest debts early on.

Benefits of improving your FICO score

The effects of a student loan consolidation on a FICO score should not be overlooked. Consolidating student loans is one of the simplest ways to make a huge improvement to your score. The ability to secure credit at low interest rates will most definitely have an impact on your financial future and the lifestyle you are able to lead. With a better FICO score you can have access to higher limits of credit, get loans faster, and reduce the amount of your hard-earned income being spent on interest payments.

Should You Really Consolidate Student Loans?

If you're pondering whether or not to consolidate student loans, consider this; all college loans have unique attributes, and not all may be perfectly suited for student loan consolidation. Student loan consolidation is, in most cases, an outstanding option for reducing monthly payments, locking in low rates, and earning opportunities to shave money off your loan balance with lender incentives. When you consolidate student loans, you lock in the current interest rate by allowing the lender to repay the entire amount, then repaying the lender free from government interest rate fluctuations.

PLUS Loan – Good Choice for Student Loan Consolidation

Like many college loans, the PLUS loan (Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students) is a type of federal loan with a variable interest rate. This means that the monthly payment will change when the government reconfigures the interest rates annually (July 1).

The interest rates on PLUS loans are generally higher than other types of college loans so when interest rates increase, PLUS loans can be greatly affected. Since college loans are consolidated by social security number, parents should apply separately for PLUS loan consolidation.

Perkins Loan – Consider before refinancing

The Perkins loan is a fixed rate loan and has some unique benefits that can be lost with a student loan consolidation. The Perkins loan has a forgiveness program that will waive all or part of the repayment amount if the borrower works in specific occupations that provide a valuable service to the community. Some such eligible occupations are teachers in low income areas, nurses, and medical technicians.

If you're not eligible for the various loan forgiveness opportunities offered by the Perkins loan, there is still another point to consider. Because the Perkins loan is a fixed rate loan, and because the interest rate on a student loan consolidation is determined by the weighted average of the other loans, you could actually pay a small percentage more on a consolidated Perkins loan over time.

Stafford Loans – Good Choice for Student Loan Consolidation

Stafford loans are the most common loans, and also the most popular type to consolidate. Stafford loans have a variable interest rate like the PLUS loan, making refinancing a smart choice. Loan consolidation can reduce the repayment amount by up to 63% if refinanced through the right lender.

Like the Perkins Loan, the Stafford Loan also offers a few forgiveness programs for those in certain teaching positions and other various public service jobs. Check to see if you’re eligible for any forgiveness programs before applying to consolidate student loans.

Health Professions Student Loan (HPSL) – Consider before refinancing

The HPSL loan for medical professionals is a fixed rate loan like the Perkins Loan. The HPSL comes with certain deferment options that may be lost after consolidation.

The HPSL offers a 3 year deferment period designed to give relief to medical professionals during residency. This deferment option may or may not be lost after consolidation. Those who have HPSL college loans should inquire with various lenders about deferment options.

Direct Loans – Good Choice for Student Loan Consolidation

Some schools offer Direct Loans, meaning that the money given to students comes directly from the federal government, not through a private lender. Borrowers who obtain these college loans must first consolidate through the Direct Loan program, but then have the opportunity to shop around for lower interest rates.
Beginning July 1st 2006, borrowers will face much stricter regulations when consolidating Direct Loans. After the 1st of July, borrowers will only be able to switch lenders if their current lender does not offer a student loan consolidation with an income sensitive repayment plan.

The two most popular types of loans are the Stafford Loan and the PLUS Loan which is the reason it’s so popular to consolidate student loans. Many students acquire a variety of college loans that may not be beneficial to consolidate. Student loans are not all created equal. It’s important to understand the unique qualities of your individual loans and work with your lender to determine the option that is right for you.
